Hoi An has more tailors per street than anywhere on earth — hundreds of shops descended from the port's silk-trading centuries, where a suit, dress or winter coat is measured in the morning, sewn overnight and fitted the next afternoon. Done right, custom clothing here costs a fraction of home prices and fits better than anything off a rack; done in a rush, it's a costume. The difference is fittings, fabric and a little time.
How It Works
Walk in with photos of what you want — or raid the shop lookbooks — choose fabric from walls of silk, linen and wool blends, and get measured; the first fitting usually happens within a day. Insist on at least one fitting, two for suits, and speak up at each one: adjustments are free and expected. Big established houses like Yaly and Bebe run large workshops with consistent quality, while small family shops can be just as good and more personal.
Prices & Pitfalls
A made-to-measure two-piece suit typically lands between roughly US$100 and $250 depending on fabric, with shirts and dresses far less — treat numbers as indicative and agree the price before measuring starts. Leave at least two full days before you travel on, be wary of the very cheapest same-day offers (corners get cut where you can't see them), and ask about shipping — every serious shop couriers finished garments worldwide.
