Ten minutes' pedal east of the lantern streets, An Bang is Hoi An's exhale: a long ribbon of pale sand backed not by hotel towers but by casuarina trees, fishermen's round basket boats and a lane of barefoot beach bars. As the nearby Cua Dai strip battles erosion, An Bang has become the town's beach of choice — loungers and swims by day, seafood grills and sunset cocktails after, all still village-scaled.
Beach Days
The sea is at its calmest and clearest from roughly March through August — flat, warm and easy for long swims, with loungers generally yours for the price of a drink. Mornings belong to the fishermen hauling round coracles through the shore break; by afternoon the umbrellas fill. From September the swell arrives and the winter monsoon can turn the water wild — that's when surf lessons and board rentals appear and swimmers sit it out.
The Bar Lane & Getting Out
The lane down to the sand fans into a village of bar-restaurants where a whole day unfolds easily — breakfast smoothies, grilled-squid lunches, happy-hour sundowners with acoustic sets; long-runners like Soul Kitchen made the beach's name. Cycle out from town through the rice paddies (flat, fifteen unhurried minutes) or take a five-minute taxi. Weekends draw Da Nang day-trippers, so weekdays are the dreamy ones — and sunrise here is criminally underrated.
