The 3-to-4-Day Ha Giang Loop Itinerary
A visual guide from the Ha Giang travel guide — see all posters in Visual Guides.
The Ha Giang Loop is usually ridden as an anticlockwise circuit from Ha Giang city: up through Quan Ba's Heaven's Gate, on to Yen Minh, across the Dong Van karst plateau, over the Ma Pi Leng Pass to Meo Vac, then back through the quiet southern valleys. On paper it is only around 350 km — but these are slow, switchbacked mountain kilometres, which is why the ride fills three or four days so easily.
Day by Day
Day one climbs from Ha Giang to Yen Minh via the Quan Ba pass viewpoint and the Twin Mountains. Day two crosses the stone country to Dong Van, with time for the Vuong family palace at Sa Phin — and, with an early start, the Lung Cu flag tower. Day three is the showpiece: the Ma Pi Leng Pass and the Nho Que boat trip through Tu San canyon, ending in Meo Vac. Day four rolls home through Mau Due or the Du Gia valley.
Three Days or Four?
Three days works if you skip the side trips and ride steadily; four is the sweet spot, buying you the boat ride, the flag tower and a market morning without racing the light. Plan by hours rather than kilometres — five or six in the saddle is a full day up here once photo stops and goats-in-the-road delays are counted — and keep a buffer for fog or rain, which can slow the passes right down.
