Lisbon

Built on seven hills above the Tagus estuary, Lisbon is the most-photographed European capital of the last decade for good reason — pastel-tiled buildings, vintage yellow trams, miradouros (cliff viewpoints) at the top of every climb. Tram 28 runs the length of the historic centre; the Alfama is the old Moorish quarter where fado was born; the Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real have the design shops and small bars. Belem holds the Jerónimos Monastery and the original Pastéis de Belém custard tart. The LX Factory is the post-industrial creative quarter.
