Komodo Island

The Komodo dragon is the world’s largest lizard — up to three metres, ambush-hunting, and entirely unimpressed with visitors. The national park spans Komodo, Rinca, and a scatter of smaller islands, and is reached by boat from Labuan Bajo on Flores. A typical multi-day liveaboard combines guided dragon walks with snorkelling at Pink Beach (so named because of red-coral sand), Manta Point (giant manta rays year round), and the panoramic viewpoint above Padar Island. Three days is the right length; one is too few.
