Ky Co and Eo Gio in Quy Nhon
Part of the Quy Nhon travel guide — see every topic in All Quy Nhon Guides.
Ky Co and Eo Gio are the two most famous places near Quy Nhon. Both sit on the Phuong Mai peninsula, across the bay from the city, about 20 to 25 km away. Ky Co is a small cove with clear blue water under green hills. Eo Gio is a rocky headland with a walkway above the sea. They are only about 2 km apart, so most people visit both on the same day. This guide explains the boat and road options, the gate rules and the best season.
Ky Co beach
Ky Co is a short beach of soft sand between rocky hills. The water is shallow near the shore and very clear on calm days. The colour changes from light green to deep blue as the sea gets deeper. Near the beach there are rocks and small coves that are good for photos. On calm days you can swim and snorkel close to the rocks. There are simple places to eat fresh seafood and to wash with fresh water. The beach is small, so it can feel busy in the middle of the day in summer. Arrive early in the morning for a quieter visit and softer light.
By boat from Nhon Ly
The classic way to reach Ky Co is by boat. First go by taxi, car or motorbike to Nhon Ly fishing village, about 20 to 25 km from the city. The road crosses the long Thi Nai bridge. At Nhon Ly, small speedboats and canoes take you along the coast to Ky Co in about 20 minutes. Many trips are sold as a package with the boat, lunch and a snorkel stop. Prices change often, so compare a few boat counters and ask what is included. Boats only run when the sea is calm. In rough weather, often from about October to March, boats may stop and tours use the road instead.
By road and the shuttle
You can also reach Ky Co by road. The road climbs over the hills of the Phuong Mai peninsula. It is steep and has many turns, so ride carefully if you go by motorbike. At the Ky Co gate you buy an entry ticket. You cannot drive all the way down to the beach. You park your car or motorbike, then take the tourist area's electric shuttle for the last steep part. The shuttle has a separate ticket. Ticket prices change, so check at the gate. The road is a good choice when the sea is too rough for boats, but there is no snorkel stop by road.
Eo Gio cliff walk
Eo Gio means "wind gap". It is a narrow bay between two rocky headlands, about 2 km from Ky Co. A paved path and many steps with red handrails run along the cliffs above the sea. From the top you see big waves, dark rocks and the open sea. There is a small entry fee. The site is usually open in daytime, about 6 am to 6 pm, but hours can change. Wear good shoes, because the steps are steep and can be wet. Eo Gio is very windy, so hold on to hats and phones. Sunrise and late afternoon have the best light.
Best time and tips
The best months for Ky Co are the dry months, about March to August. The sea is calm, the water is clear and boats run every day. From about September to December there is more rain, the sea is rougher and storms are possible. Boats may not run and snorkelling may stop. Check the weather the day before. Bring sun cream, a hat, water, cash and a dry bag for your phone. Reef shoes help on the rocks. Take all rubbish back with you and do not stand on coral. Go early in the morning to beat the heat and the tour groups.
