White Beach and Stations in Boracay
Part of the Boracay travel guide — see every topic in All Boracay Guides.
White Beach is the heart of Boracay. It runs for about four kilometres along the west side of the island, with fine white sand and calm, clear water for much of the year. The beach is divided into three areas, called Station 1, Station 2 and Station 3. Each has a different feel. This guide helps you choose where to base yourself.
Station 1
Station 1 is the northern part of White Beach. The beach is widest here, and the sand is often said to be the finest on the island. Many of the larger and more expensive hotels are in this area. It is quieter than Station 2 but still close to restaurants and shops. Willy's Rock, a small rock formation in the water, is a well-known landmark here. Station 1 is a good choice for couples and for travellers who want a calmer stay with easy access to everything.
Station 2
Station 2 is the centre of White Beach and the busiest area. It has the most restaurants, bars, shops and hotels. D'Mall, an open-air shopping area, and the public market are here. In the evening, the beach path is full of people walking, eating and watching the sunset. Station 2 suits travellers who want to be close to the action and like a lively atmosphere. It can be noisy at night, so ask for a room away from the main path if you want to sleep early.
Station 3
Station 3 is the southern part of White Beach. It is quieter and more relaxed, with many smaller hotels and guesthouses. Prices are often lower than in Stations 1 and 2. The beach is a little narrower, but the water is still clear and calm. It is a good base for budget travellers and for people who want peace in the evening. Station 2 is only a short walk away along the sand. The southern end is also close to the boat area for some island-hopping trips.
Beaches beyond White Beach
Boracay has several smaller beaches that feel very different from White Beach. Puka Shell Beach, in the far north, is long and quiet, with coarser sand and stronger waves. Diniwid Beach, just north of Station 1, is a small cove reached by a path around the rocks. Bulabog Beach, on the east side, is the centre for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Ilig-Iligan Beach, in the northeast, is small and calm. E-trikes, electric tricycles, can take you to all of these in a short ride.
Choosing when to go
Boracay has two main wind seasons. From about November to April, the northeast wind, called Amihan, blows across the island. White Beach is then calm and sunny, and this is the most popular time to visit. From about June to October, the southwest wind, called Habagat, brings more rain and waves to White Beach. During this time, Bulabog Beach on the east side is calmer for swimming. The months of March to May are hot and dry. Book early for Christmas, New Year and Easter.
