Golden Bay, Da Nang

The towers at the mouth of the Hàn River — and the best seat in the city. A gateway to the whole Da Nang travel guide.

The view west from a Golden Bay balcony: Thuận Phước Bridge, the Hàn River mouth, and the city stacked up behind it.

The photographs on this page were taken on location at Golden Bay in June and July 2026 — not stock, not generated. Times of day and weather are exactly as they came.

Golden Bay is the cluster of high-rise hotels and apartments on the Son Tra side of the Hàn River, right at the eastern foot of the Thuận Phước Bridge, in Nại Hiên Đông. Fifteen years ago this was a low shore of fishing hamlets and sand. It exists in its present form because the bridge arrived in 2009 and made the far bank a ten-minute drive from the middle of town — the clearest single illustration of how modern Da Nang was built.

What you come for is the geometry. The river mouth turns the whole city side-on: the skyline to the west, the bridge in the middle distance, the working fishing fleet directly below, the open sea to the north, and the Hải Vân range closing the horizon. It faces the sunset, and it looks straight down the channel where the fireworks are fired.

Timing it

Getting around from here

You are on the quiet bank, which is the trade-off. Cross the bridge and you are in the centre in a few minutes; turn the other way and the coast road runs out onto the Son Tra Peninsula and down to Mỹ Khê Beach. Grab and taxis are plentiful and cheap; a scooter gives you the peninsula properly. The Thọ Quang fishing harbour just north is where the boats below your window actually land their catch, and it is worth an early morning.

The short version of the history

This river mouth is where the French fleet forced its way in on 1 September 1858, opening the conquest of Vietnam; where American Marines came ashore in March 1965; and where, after 1997, a newly independent city government began the building programme that produced everything you can see from the balcony. The full story — Cham kingdoms, the concession of Tourane, the war years, the boom, and the 2025 remerger with Quảng Nam — is on the history of Da Nang page.
