APEC Park and Love Bridge in Da Nang

Da Nang built its riverfront for walking, and the best stretch of it costs nothing. On the west bank, APEC Park sits under a swooping lattice canopy that lights up after sunset. Cross to the east bank and you get the Love Bridge — a stubby pier hung with heart-shaped lanterns and weighed down with padlocks — plus the carp-dragon statue beside it. All of it is open-air, free, unticketed, and far better after dark than at two in the afternoon in June.
APEC Park after dark
Công viên APEC sits on the west bank near the Trần Thị Lý Bridge, at the southern end of the Bạch Đằng riverside walk. The small 2017 sculpture garden — one work contributed by each APEC economy — was absorbed into a much larger park whose centrepiece is a curving steel-and-glass canopy, part shell, part wave. It photographs better from the outside than under it, but the lawns, water features and river breeze make it a good place to sit. No gate, no ticket, no closing time. Come between about 7pm and 9pm, once the lighting is running and the heat has broken.
The Love Bridge and the carp-dragon
The Love Bridge (Cầu Tàu Tình Yêu) is not really a bridge — it is a short pier off Trần Hưng Đạo on the east bank, just north of the Dragon Bridge, lined with heart-shaped lanterns and railings crusted in padlocks. Vendors sell locks and markers for pocket change if you want to add one. Beside it stands Cá Chép Hóa Rồng, the white marble carp turning into a dragon, roughly seven metres tall and floodlit at night. Both are free and never close. Weekends bring crowds and wedding shoots; a weeknight gets you the river almost to yourself.
Walking the Bạch Đằng promenade
Do it as one loop. Start near the Sông Hàn swing bridge and walk south along Bạch Đằng, the west-bank promenade, past the cafés and under the Dragon Bridge, to APEC Park — around 2 km of flat paved riverside with benches the whole way. Cross back over the Dragon Bridge on its sidewalk, then follow the east-bank walkway to the Love Bridge and the carp-dragon. Three to four kilometres with stops, an easy ninety minutes. Time it for the Dragon Bridge fire-and-water show, generally weekend and holiday nights around 9pm — check the current schedule, as it gets suspended.
