Who We Are

PacificAir.com (“we,” “us,” or “the site”) is a personal travel journal published by an individual, not a company. Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, the operator of PacificAir.com is the data controller for any personal data submitted through this site. You can reach us at the email address listed on the About page.

What Data We Collect

We collect personal data only when you actively submit it, plus a minimal amount of technical information automatically logged by the web server.

Through the contact form

• Name — whatever you type into the name field.
• Email address — so we can reply to you.
• Subject (optional).
• Message body — the content you write.
• IP address — the public network address of the device used to submit the form.
• Browser user-agent string — identifies the browser and operating system.
• Submission timestamp (UTC).

Through server logs

Our web server (Apache 2) records standard access logs for every request to the site, including page URLs, IP addresses, user-agent strings, referrer headers, and timestamps. These logs are used for security monitoring, abuse detection, and basic traffic analysis.

What we do not collect

• We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any third-party analytics or advertising trackers.
• We do not set tracking cookies. The site does not currently set any cookies at all.
• We do not collect special categories of personal data (health, political opinions, etc.).
• We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

Why We Collect It (Lawful Basis)

• Contact form submissions — processed on the basis of your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), given by your act of submitting the form, and our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) in receiving and responding to inquiries.
• IP address and user-agent on submissions — processed on the basis of legitimate interest in preventing abuse, spam, and fraudulent submissions to the form.
• Server access logs — processed on the basis of legitimate interest in operating, securing, and maintaining the site.

How Long We Keep It

• Contact form messages are retained for up to thirty (30) days, after which they are automatically deleted from the database by a scheduled job. If we need to keep an inquiry longer to resolve it, we move our reply into our regular email and delete the database row.
• Server access logs are retained for up to thirty (30) days, then rotated and discarded.
• You may request earlier deletion at any time — see your rights below.

Who We Share It With

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We do not share your data with marketing networks, social platforms, or analytics providers. The only third parties who could incidentally process your data are:

• Our hosting provider, which operates the physical server. They process data on our instructions as a processor under GDPR Art. 28.
• Law enforcement or courts, if and only if we are legally compelled to disclose data.

International Transfers

The server hosting PacificAir.com may be located outside your country of residence. Where data leaves the European Economic Area, the transfer relies on the recipient’s adequacy decision or on standard contractual clauses where applicable.

Your Rights

If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the following rights under GDPR:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
• Erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — ask us to delete your data.
• Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data.
• Portability — ask for your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
• Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
• Withdraw consent — at any time, with no effect on processing already carried out.

Cookies

PacificAir.com does not currently set any cookies. Your browser will cache static assets (HTML, CSS, images) for performance; that browser-side caching is not a cookie and contains no personal data. If we ever add cookies or similar technologies in the future, this page will be updated and a consent mechanism will be presented before any non-essential cookies are set.

Security

The contact form is transmitted over HTTPS. Submissions are stored in a SQLite database on a server with restricted file-system permissions. No system is perfectly secure, but we apply reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data involved.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage for a reasonable period.
